Enlightened Masochism? A requirement to be a perfumer?

Is "enlightened masochism" necessary to maintain your sanity as perfumer? The process of creating and making and trying to put your intention or someone else’s into olfactory matter—— perfume can be devastating to the ego. But when we have personal small creative successes- even an idea coming to fruition a perfume mod turning out- I cannot express to you the joy - being a perfumer is no easy thing. I love it so much!
